"Yea, you're right," he conceded on the size part of it. "Better to make 'em right for the birthday boy." Bucky knew better than to do anything too big and, to be honest, he didn't even really want to spend time with any of the Avengers or anything. He'd be much happier watching the fireworks from the fire escape like they'd done back when they were teenagers, back before the world got too damn big to keep track of.
When they were younger, Bucky had always done his best to make Steve's birthday a good time regardless of how little money they had. He remembered picking up extra shifts to have just enough money for a small cut of meat and the nice stuff from the art supply store. Now, thanks to the government or Stark or whoever, he had bank accounts with more than enough money to cover the cost of his life so long as he wasn't frivolous. That, luckily, was never a word used to describe him.
"I know you don't want anything too crazy so. Just us, some fireworks, and a good meal?" Bucky was pretty sure that was the case, but he'd found it best to just ask these days just in case his memory was playing tricks on him. Wilson was down with his family and the only other one who would've dropped in on them would've been Nat. Figured they were pretty safe from a surprise party since he wasn't throwing one.
Still, it was an easy topic while they made their hamburgers.
